Details

The small things in life sometimes go unnoticed.

Using the camera to draw attention to the beauty all around us is an extremely rewarding pursuit.

Diverse subjects and locations, including all the previous sections.

Screw up

Statement or instruction. Nice ambiguity. Did the designer know?

Part of the many decaying machines on the Fishing Fleet beach. Hastings.

Flaming leaves

I spotted this interesting foliage at Scotney Castle in Kent.

I photographed this unknown, to me, species using a spacer ring to get super close to the subject.

Many of these ferns were emerging around the woodland.

Industrial signage

I am not sure if this is a logo, signage or symbol.

On the side of some of the ageing machinery at the Hastings, Fishing Fleet beach.

Waveform

A calm day on the beach and the tiny waves came in so gently. The front of the wave refracts light downward towards the tan pebble. The water beyond the waves reflects the blue of the sky.

Nikon D850 200mm F-11 1/1000 secs iso 200

Beech leaves

I loved the way the light was interacting with these leaves and the trunk of this beech tree. It gives a wonderful balance to the image.

Powdermill Woods, Battle.

Rivulets

I love all the details the water creates on the beach as it flows over the sand and rocks.

Similar forms can be seen from aircraft flying over rock formations in the desert. Very fractal in nature.

Nikon D850 85mm F-3.5 1/1250 secs iso 100

Beach of gold

The early morning sun was catching the sand and pebbles of the beach in St Leonards.

I love the way the pebbles sit in a rut caused by the eddies in the water that flows past.

I need to get a photo that shows those eddies.

Gentle statue

This ageing statue at Sissinghurst displays such a kind, gentle expression. I am not sure who the artist is. I will ask next time I am there.

Barnacles on sea defences

A microcosm of life at Pett Level. Photographed using a spacer ring between the lens and the camera. This gives a much closer focal range for macro photography.

Nikon D850 85mm F-4 1/2500 secs iso 200

Sand waves

The amazing wave patterns in the sand left by the retreating give lovely little shadows in the morning sun. As yet undisturbed by feet.

Nikon D850 85mm F-22 1/400 secs iso 200

Red Flower

This flower pokes out from the shade to catch the morning sun and burst with colour.

Goat Ledge Cafe, St Leonards

Seed pods

I am not sure what variety these seed pods are.

They catch the light beautifully in Powdermill Wood, Battle.

Tree fern

This tree fern at Great Dixter gardens in Kent unfurls into the light.

Nikon Df 105mm F-4 1/640 secs iso 250

Gearbox

This old gearbox slowly corrodes by the sea at the Fishing Fleet beach in Hastings.

Nikon Df 105mm F-8 1/4000 secs iso 200

Pebbles and wood

The old, eroding sea defences at Rye Harbour occasionally trap pebbles.

Nikon Df 50mm F-2.8 1/1250 secs iso 200

Lilies catch the light

These eye-catching blooms were at Great Dixter gardens in Kent.

Nikon Df 50mm F-1.4 1/4000 secs iso 200

Rivulets in the sand

The patterns in the sand formed by the water passing the rocks and pebbles remind me of Japanese gardens.

Nikon D850 35mm F-22 1/125 secs iso 250

Ripples on sea

The restful ripples on the sea reflected the sky and the adjacent pier.

The smaller ripple, bottom left gives a nice focal point.

Nikon D850 200mm F-8 1/2500 secs iso 320

Rivulet and stone

The rivulets seem to reach up to the stone at the top.

Nikon D850 85mm F-22 1/125 secs iso 160

Morning sand

The sand on the beach catches the colours of the morning sky. Pebbles are silhouetted with their trails flowing behind them.

Nikon D850 85mm F-22 1/320 secs iso 320

Another fern

They are very photogenic. I love photographing all the different forms they take when growing.

Nikon D850 85mm F-2 1/800 secs iso 200

Shrouded bloom

This flower has grown with a protective shroud around it. Condensation has built up inside.
